MORE than 1,400 people are expected to attend a March for Independence this weekend as Yes campaigners push for a second referendum.

The event, organised by All Under One Banner activists, will take place in Glasgow on Saturday.

Participants will gather at the Botanic Gardens in the West End of the city at 10am before leaving for the city centre half an hour later, marching past key landmarks to George Square.

Organisers said: “We look forward to seeing a massive turn-out.”

Paul Kavanagh, known to readers of The National as the Wee Ginger Dug, is amongst high-profile Yes supporters set to attend the event, with representatives of the Common Weal thinktank also expected to appear. Those with mobility problems who cannot take part in the procession can meet the marchers at noon in George Square.

Previous events have drawn large crowds and on Facebook last night those set to attend said such public shows of support are vital to ensuring the continuation of the movement and encouraging more Scots to back constitutional change.

One user said: “As before, I’ll be there – this is now of increased importance.”
