LAST Saturday night, the usually peaceful Bellahouston Park in Glasgow’s south side was turned into a hive of noise and activity.

The reason? Paisley’s favourite son Paolo Nutini was preparing to make his hotly anticipated Scottish return in front of tens of thousands of expectant fans.

It was the singer-songwriter’s biggest ever headline show, and no doubt an incredibly nerve-wracking prospect, but from the moment the Scot stepped on the massive Summer Sessions stage, Paolo had the crowd in the palm of his hand.

In a set consisting mainly of songs from his third album, Caustic Love, Paolo filled his two-hour slot with absolute ease, even performing alternative versions of early favourites such as Jenny Don’t Be Hasty and New Shoes.

Alloway Grove, Better Man and Candy were standouts, but none came close to the show-stopping Iron Sky.

To wrap it up there was only one option. Last Request provided the perfect sing-a-long to cap what was as an impressive performance as you are likely to see all year.

The followin night Calvin Harris headlined the Summer Sessions stage. Although he had the capacity crowd bouncing along, there was no doubt that Paolo delivered the performance of the weekend, and maybe even one of the best Bellahouston has ever seen.
