The Big Painting Challenge, BBC1, 6pm
NEW series. Mariella Frostrup and the Rev Richard Coles (both pictured, right) present a third series of the art contest, which begins with 10 contestants getting a masterclass in still life in Glasgow. They must each depict an object they have brought from home, before visiting a distillery to produce a large-scale painting of the stills and fermenters.

The Generation Game, BBC1, 8pm
WHEN the Generation Game was a national institution during the 1970s and 80s, Bruce Forsyth and subsequent hosts were joined by a female co-host. Here, Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins take charge of the proceedings. Star judges will assess how the teams are getting on during their challenges.

Ordeal by Innocence BBC1, 9pm
THIS adaptation of Agatha Christie’s 1958 novel stars Bill Nighy, Anna Chancellor, Luke Treadaway and Morven Christie (all pictured). When wealthy philanthropist Rachel Argylle is murdered, her adopted son Jack is arrested but dies in prison before trial. Dr Arthur Calgary appears, claiming he can prove Jack’s innocence. Why are Rachel’s surviving relatives so reluctant to reopen the case?

Conspiracy Files: Murder in Washington, BBC2, 9pm
IN July 2016, Seth Rich, a young staffer working for the Democrats, was shot dead in Washington. Conspiracy theories claimed he was behind the leak of thousands of damaging internal emails. So who did kill him? The Democrats? The Russians? Or was it just a bungled robbery?
