The First Brit: Secrets of the 10,000-Year-Old Man (C4, 8pm)

This documentary follows scientists at the Natural History Museum and University College London studying Britain’s oldest human remains. The complete skeleton was unearthed in Gough’s Cave in Cheddar Gorge, Somerset, more than 100 years ago and has been dated as 10,000 years old. While DNA analysis and advanced genetic testing is carried out on the remains, two of the world’s most acclaimed palaeontological model makers try to recreate the human face of this ancient Briton.

Homeland (C4, 9pm)

The espionage drama returns for a seventh season. Saul and the 200 other federal employees detained after the attempt on the president-elect’s life are still in prison, while the new head of state’s administration continues to come under scrutiny. Carrie has left her position in the White House and moved back to DC, living with her sister Maggie and her family as she takes on the Keane administration and tries to secure the release of her mentor and colleagues.

Akala’s Odyssey (BBC4, 9pm)

London-born rapper and poet Kingslee James Daley, better known by his stage name Akala, explores the world of Homer and the Odyssey. He discovers how an epic poem became the cornerstone of Western literature and how his own experiences have been affected by the classic which is, in part, a sequel to Homer’s Iliad. Akala travels on a personal journey from the ruins of Troy to the Acropolis, looking at how language can create national identity and how the Odyssey endures to this day.
