SCOTTISH fashion and textiles brand Studio Five prides itself on creating unique, stylish and sustainable products.

The label was founded in October 2016 by sisters Lucy and Kitty Pressland, who shared a mutual interest in the sustainable fashion sector.

Prior to founding the brand, the pair graduated with honours degrees in fashion and textiles from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh and Robert Gordon in Aberdeen.

Throughout their studies, the Pressland sisters developed a passion for environmental issues within the textile industry and began researching ways of altering consumer perspectives on sustainable fashion.

After graduating, their interest turned into an aspiration to build a brand that captured their creativity while contributing to the slow fashion movement … and Studio Five was born.

Despite the newness of the brand, Studio Five has successfully found its feet in the world of slow fashion and has been part of several events that celebrate sustainability, ethics and diversity within fashion, including Fashion Revolution Week and FashionABLE.

Reflecting upon their first year as a sustainable fashion label, the sisters say: “At Studio Five we have loved becoming a part of the ethical fashion industry through these events, as they allow new and established members of the industry to come together and talk, learn and celebrate ethical fashion.”

The label’s debut collection takes inspiration from the natural world combining illustration, photography and collage.

The line includes a variety of unisex, organic cotton T-shirts as well as handmade organic cushions, hand-rolled scarves, stickers and badges.

A focal point of the collection are the street-style T-shirts, which are fun, bold and affordable, with prices starting at £15. By offering reasonably priced products, the duo hope to make sustainable fashion more inclusive so that everyone can experience its benefits.

As awareness of the brand has increased, so has the product range. It has been expanded to include products such as organic drawstring make-up bags with bamboo silk lining, which are made to order and available in three different sizes.

Studio Five’s current collection can be found online or instore at the Scottish Design Exchange at Ocean Terminal in Edinburgh.

The sisters are currently working on their second collection, which is due to be released at the end of August, as well as up-and-coming side projects.

With an exciting future ahead, they say: “Studio Five aims for all their products to be 100 per cent sustainable and hopes to grow to be a brand that people recognise for their unique designs, great quality and handmade products.”
