GLASGOW-BASED jeweller Ruth Hollywood produces vibrant, geometric pieces inspired by science, architecture and modern art.

Prior to founding her label, Hollywood graduated from Glasgow School of Art where she practised as a lecturer in art, design and jewellery.

She then went on to establish herself as an independent jewellery designer and launched her first original collection in 2013.

Hollywood’s designs are instantly recognisable, each statement piece bright yet minimal, and lightweight yet strong, and have established a contemporary style which is suitable for everyday wear.

Her designs are based upon colour theory and grid formations which act as key themes for the development of shapes and structures. Her collections also contain a mixture of large and small-scale pieces.

Sustainability is of great importance throughout the design process and Hollywood is dedicated to reducing the environmental impact of her practice through using responsibly sourced, recycled silver. Her ethical principals are also transferred into areas such as packaging and waste.

Hollywood’s label has found both a national and international following and her designs have been showcased across the globe at events such as the Contemporary Jewellery Exhibition 2017 in Brussels and Inhorgenta in Munich.

Her work has also been recognised by the industry, as a result of which she has received several acknowledgments. Highlights include receiving the Glasgow Visual Art And Craft award from Glasgow Life and funding for a Go And See trip to New York from Craft Scotland.

Her forthcoming collection continues to combine her signature use of colour, grids and geometry to create pieces which possess strong three-dimensional properties.

The bold range sees Hollywood skilfully combine new technology such as 3D printing with traditional scoring and folding techniques. In using these methods, shapes inherit 3D qualities, allowing squares to become cubes and hexagons to become tumbling blocks.

In true Hollywood style, bright pops of colour act as one of the key focal points of the collection. The vibrant colour palette was created using hand-mixed resin pigments which become optical illusions when viewed from different angles through varying qualities of light. The bold resin is complemented by a delicately brushed, matte finish silver.

Hollywood’s latest collection officially launches this summer.
