THAT Tim Kliphuis has been called “a contemporary, improvising Paganini” is no throwaway remark – the galavanting womaniser was the foremost violin virtuoso of the early 19th century.

Kliphuis (pronounced “Clip-house”) is most known for his fusion of classical, jazz and gypsy music. The Dutchman’s first book was called Gypsy Jazz and he has hosted an annual “gypsy jazz camp” in the Netherlands for the past six years.

These shows, which mark 10 years of his trio with guitarist Nigel Clark and bassist Roy Percy, will celebrate their genre-mashing crowd favourites from across the past decade, including music by Ellington, Grappelli, R Strauss and their colourful, vibrant take on Vivaldi’s Four Seasons as heard in their current album Reflecting The Seasons. For the Glasgow and Edinburgh shows, the trio will be joined by cross-genre violinist Greg Lawson, violinist/pianist Seaonaid Aitken and cellist Su-a Lee.
