AS a boy of 15, l watched a newsreel in 1945 about the bombing of Hiroshima and its aftermath. l could not absorb that one bomb had reduced a city to rubble, and killed 147,000 people. but l was horrified at seeing a woman with her checked kimono burned into her back. That memory is with me still!

In the present day when the maniacs of this world “would press the button”, do they ever try to imagine what would be the result if even one of the present weapons (eight times more powerful) would do to Glasgow (a prime target) or any other city of that size? There will be no victors in any nuclear conflict, only survivors, and their lives would be taken up with trying to exist, and find food and water which is not either poisoned or contaminated by radiation. Let me assure anyone reading that this is not science fiction ... I defy any of the doubters to explain what will be an alternative result.

Possibly this damaged planet will sustain life for a couple of hundred years, but a hae ma doots as long as the nutters are still around!!
