WE have had eyewitness reports from all over Scotland about Unionists trying to hide The National behind other newspapers in their local newsagents and stores.
With their very British love of freedom of speech (not), it seems certain people just can’t stomach the fact that there is a daily newspaper that supports independence.
We’re not perfect but we do try and report the facts in a straightforward manner while carrying opinions by columnists who support independence, as well as pages of letters by our readers that are often a display of divided opinion – it would be a fool who said that Scots agree on everything.

We like to think we are meeting a need and telling the story of the pro-independence movement, coverage that is conspicuously absent in the rest of the media.
But we need your help to do this, and now one Yes group has decided to take action to assist The National.
Yes Cupar has come to an arrangement with a local newsagent to have The National on sale at its Yes hub in the Crossgate Centre in the Fife town.
They announced on Monday: “From today The National is stocked and for sale at The Crossgate Centre! And The National headline boards will be out front in the street for all to see!
“If you’re in the Cupar area, make a habit of dropping in to buy your copy of The National from the centre!”
All we can say is thank you to Yes Cupar and hope others follow them.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
