CAROLYN Leckie’s comment (Supporters of indy must stand united against right, August 13) follows on nicely from a recent Sunday Herald article by the director of the Electoral Reform Society Scotland in which William Sullivan asks “What’s gone wrong with democracy?”

Underlying the frustration felt by both is that Scotland has progressed into a forward-looking nation while England and many others cling to the old ways of a right-wing, hierarchical structure. Surely it’s time to recognise how political bias can stultify us, holding us back from achieving the society for which we all desire? As Carolyn pointed out, Yes voters for independence are not necessarily SNP voters.

Unfortunately, Nicola Sturgeon is coming under heavy criticism for seemingly holding back on indyref2. I would like to hear, first, what discussions were held during Theresa May’s recent visit. I would also like to point out that with Nicola’s background training in law she would want to secure a watertight legal arrangement for the country she lives and breathes for.
