GOAN sumndae explain tae me whit a Labour value is? Jist yin’ll dae. It’s a we hear fae labour. Ruth was so successful with only having one policy in two recent elections: “we don’t want a second referendum” that Labour are following their blue comrades with using a single soundbite hoping nobody will notice. Is it the Labour and trades unions values that applied during the miners heroic struggle against Thatcher? Don’t forget the part they played in the disgraceful treatment that was meted out to miners and their families trying to protect their jobs, their families and their communities. The Labour Party has never been a socialist party. John MacLean wrote to the newly-formed Soviet Republic in 1922 to warn them of the duplicity of the then Labour leadership. Labour values? Aye right.

Joe Wallace, Penicuik

LABOUR values? I’m not sure, but how about blind loyalty to a Union that stands for patronage, elitism and oligarchy. I do however know that the value of our labour is diminishing, with wages the lowest since 2006 (Earnings lowest since 2006, The National, December 14).
