THE sanctimonious self-righteousness shown by reactions to Alex Salmond’s Russia Today programme are amusing if not daft (Alex Salmond launches new show on Russia Today to mixed reactions, The National, Nov 10).

Given what I would guess is a meagre budget on which to base a daily schedule of programmes, RT covers a reasonable range of topics. As for bias and state propaganda it is no different from any of our western media.

As already pointed out by Mr Salmond, a notable number of British politicians are often featured on RT. Jeremy Corbyn was a regular on the channel for some years.

Currently, a former high-ranking female member of the British intelligence services appears as a regular on RT. Do we ever see the like on UK TV channels?

All this sanctimony, some of it coming, to their shame, from some notable SNP names, is out of place. I don’t think that I’ve been corrupted by watching RT, nor has it affected any opinions I may have, or had, about Vladimir Putin. In truth, Mr Putin has had, I would say, far fewer appearances on RT than Mr Corbyn.
