ICANNOT understand why anybody who was born and raised in Scotland would vote for a foreign country to govern them (Tories exposed over Brexit power grab, The National, September 15). Give all your national assets to another country, then stand by like a gardener waiting for a hand-out.

The biggest problem, as I see it, with farming subsidies, are the IT systems. Mostly those systems are not in-house but out-sourced. The assumption is that we don’t have the brain power here in Scotland to set up our own IT system. That is stupid. We do.

There are many program writers. Unemployed. Who could set up the in-house system and do all the necessary tweaks. But if you don’t use your own programming, you are at the mercy of a profiteering company that uses programmers to try to fix the mess of their programming.

Most of the payment subsidy depends on the usability of each field. So it has to be split up into hectares as soil conditions change. The soil needs more put into it to get the same sort of return. It is very complex – as expenses mount so do the need for subsidies.

Crashing out of the EU, as we are doing, is going to hurt our farming and fishing. Our farmers will get less in subsidies as England decides their banking industry needs more. To top it all, our fishing waters have already been bargained away. The only way we can change any of these is to take control of our own country. Those of you worried about a black hole in our finances need to wake up. The only black hole is called Westminster. If our share of the national debt is ours, then so, too, is our share of the national assets. Both here and elsewhere in the world. Yes, even the assets we don’t want.

Once all those are added, we would find ourselves owed some hundreds of billions by England. We would be starting off with a healthy bank account – if the English decide to destroy the Eurotunnel.

They would have to pay out our share. Our imports and exports that use the Eurotunnel would have to be customs sealed here. Believe me, there is going to be a need for lots of workers. We would see a healthy growth in employment. Even without the oil we can afford to go it alone. Once we add in oil revenue – which we will have to take control of, like Norway does – we will see at least the same level of revenue

as Norway, unlike the mismanaged or stolen way being used by London.

Remember it’s our country’s asset. Something is very wrong in the revenue numbers being made public. We are receiving about five per cent of what Norway does even though we are pumping much more.

I was born in Manchester and grew up in South Africa. I settled here as my home after my long-term spouse passed away. I am an SNP member. I might not agree with all their policies, but I believe in Scotlandand its people.

Why don’t you? Why do you refuse to support the only party that could give us independence? Why are so many of you too lazy to get out and vote? If you believe in your country, you should make time to vote – every chance you get.

If you want independence, you should be getting out and voting SNP every time until we get independence. You can only change the system once you have control of it. By giving control to another country via their branch office party members is a disgrace.

WESTMINSTER Britnats are determined to make Scotland a wasteland. They must not be allowed to drag Scotland down to xenophobic Westminster’s level. Scotland wants no part of a British nationalist Empire2.0
