It was great to learn that again the SNP had firm support in the population at the elections on 5th May last year. The party whose purpose is to organise Scotland as an independent country. It is also gratifying that another party in the Parliament - the Scottish Green Party - aims at making Scotland an independent country. Hopefully these two parties will be able to cooperate in a new coalition.

Before another referendum it is important to emphasise that the country is organised according to the Nordic (Scandinavian) model where the differences between those who have much wealth and those who have little will be decreased. My impression while living and working in Scotland during the winter of 2004/2005 was that the distribution of wealth was problematic. Here we, the Faroese, could demonstrate how our welfare society is organized.

I am in no doubt that since the SNP got the absolute majority at Holyrood in 2011, the foundations have been laid for a Scottish society built on solidary principles where the differences between rich and poor will diminish. This is important to accomplish because if this is successful the people will be more optimistic and then a new, genuinely promising referendum would pave the way for taking over the country. And, dear neighbours and you who have the power in Holyrood, don't be scared of a UK government which is now in power and whose purpose it is to support those who are wealthy. Don't lose your footing by propaganda from Westminster claiming that serious distress would be the consequences should the country be free, you who want to be the driving force for an independent Scotland where it is good to live for everybody.

We can glimpse a change for the better now that a coalition has been formed with two separation parties. An important matter which they are working on with the Social Democratic Party, that is part of the coalition, is to produce a Faroese constitution. This is a promising issue which the three parties have decided to implement.

Just like in Scotland the time has arrived for Faroe Islanders to take over the country. The young people have become bored of hearing the Unionists endlessly maundering that nothing can be done if the Faroes get independence. Yes, of course it is possible to pave the way for a better future if we, the Faroese people like the Scots, make a big effort to work towards the goal of making both countries independent before long. This requires supreme effort. Structural change must be made in many fields so that both countries can be equipped to prosper on safe Faroese and Scottish foundations. Then the matter is ready to put to a referendum; and then the people will not fail when they are convinced that now it is possible to live in an independent country.

My dear neighbours. I wish you future happiness and prosperity, you who live in such a beautiful country; cheer up and best wishes SNP and the Scottish Green Party who are ready to accept the responsibility of paving the way for a free and independent Scotland.

PS: The referendum on 23rd June last year where the English and the Welsh decided to leave the European Union while you, the Scots, wanted to continue cooperating with Europe demonstrates that the route towards sovereignty is necessary. Many good wishes and good luck to you!
