HOLIDAY firm Thomas Cook said British tourists were delaying booking their holidays amid fears of terrorist attacks overseas.

The FTSE 250 company said the business continues to be impacted by a “volatile geopolitical backdrop”, with the number of summer trips sold for 2016 hitting 40 per cent, down two per cent on last year.

It said demand was shifting, with “significantly lower” bookings for Turkey being offset by a rising demand for trips to the western Mediterranean, the US and Cuba.

Meanwhile, its winter market also saw a three per cent fall in bookings compared to last year, with 90 per cent of its programme sold.

Travel companies have seen their bookings drop after a number of terrorist attacks in places such as Turkey, Paris, Tunisia and Egypt.
