WAITROSE has teamed up with a craft brewery to find Britain’s best home-made beer.

Phil Sisson’s Raindrops on Roses has been picked as the winner of the high street grocer and Derbyshire-based Thornbridge Brewery’s Home Brew Challenge 2016. The Belgian-style wheat beer, which was created in Phil’s shed in Glasgow, is the first rose petal-infused beer the supermarket has ever sold. The unusually floral flavour profile and musical name were both inspired by Phil’s daughter Martha, eight, who is a big fan of The Sound of Music.

Sisson, 40, began home brewing five years ago while working as a recording studio manager in London and recently moved to Scotland with his family. He says, ‘I’m absolutely flabbergasted. I’ve been a big admirer of Thornbridge’s beers for years and it’s just fantastic to have been able to impress the judges with my own creation.’

Raindrops on Roses will be available in 70 Waitrose branches from November 14.
