THE Johnnie Walker site plans are part of an ambitious business proposal that would transform the economic prospects for Ayrshire .

The Ayrshire Growth Deal is targeting around £359 million of funding from the Scottish and UK governments to develop projects across the region which can develop inclusive growth.

The projects are all expected to create jobs and have a big economic impact for Ayrshire and Scotland.

The deal will aim to develop further and build on the success of the area’s industries – including , life sciences, manufacturing and tourism – while providing the infrastructure and support to make businesses even more innovative.

Projects include road and rail improvements and support for the aerospace industry at Prestwick.

North and East Ayrshire councillors have approved the plan, to be submitted to the Scottish and UK governments next Tuesday.

South Ayrshire will follow suit next week. Councillor Joe Cullinane, leader of North Ayrshire Council, said: “It is fantastic that we have reached this stage and we’re excited about the proposals.”
