The new bank note
THE first main plastic banknote from Bank of Scotland will go into circulation in the autumn and will be available in branches from October 4.
The polymer note is slightly smaller than the existing £5 notes, and its size is consistent with new £5 notes being issued by the Bank of England and other UK banks later this year.
It reuses the existing Bank of Scotland £5 design, which has a portrait of Sir Walter Scott on the front.
On the front and rear of the note, an image of the bank’s headquarters on the Mound, Edinburgh, has been developed as a main feature.
One of the key security features of polymer notes is the anti-counterfeit “window effect” which has been incorporated on the new fiver as the windows of the Mound.
