BAKERY chain Greggs is offering couples a four course candlelit dinner in selected shops across the UK, including one in Scotland.

Selected shops will be transformed into restaurants designed for romance, complete with mood lighting and music, roses, candelabras and white linen tablecloths.

The branch on Glasgow’s Argyle Street is one of the five in the UK offering the one night only experience for Valentine’s Day.

The other four branches are London Stockwell, Manchester City Tower, Newcastle Grainger Street and Cardiff Queen Street.

Billed as the ultimate Valentine’s treat for the Greggs fan in your life, the menu is made up entirely of Greggs food with a Valentine’s Day twist.

The four-course meal will include classic canapes such as seasoned pork puff pastry sliders, love heart garnished bakes, doughnuts and prosecco.

Instead of ordering at the till, diners will be waited on at their own tables in what Greggs describes as “first class table service” with classical music playing in the background.

Dessert and Fairtrade coffee will also be served.

The set menu will cost £15 for two on Wednesday 14 February, at 7pm.

Greggs has teamed up with Open Table and couples can book from Wednesday 7 February online (www.opentable.co.uk/greggs).

A Greggs spokesperson said: “For the first time in our history, we wanted to offer the public the opportunity to enjoy their Valentine’s Day evening in the comfort of their local Greggs.

“We’re delighted to offer this experience for fans for one night only – whether they’re on a first date or have been married for 30 years, we can guarantee it will be a night to remember.

“The one-night-only menu will be made entirely from your favourite products but given a special Valentine’s twist.

“Sausage rolls and romance can go hand in hand.”

Adrian Valeriano of OpenTable, said “We are really excited to be working with Greggs to deliver reservations for this unique Valentine’s dining experience.

“For fans of Greggs this is a one night only occasion and we didn’t want to miss out on the chance to help romance blossom on this exclusive evening.”

Starter options on the menu are seasoned pork and a puff pastry starter steak and blue cheese en croute, katsu tortilla wrap, Mexican chicken chipotle spoon, bechamel toasted honey cured ham square and tomato gazpacho.

Main courses include any puff pastry parcel, freshly baked to order, accompanied by oven roasted spiced potato slices and a garnish of fresh Apollo and spinach leaves and sunblush tomatoes.

Dessert is a brochette of miniature doughnuts paired with a butterscotch flavour dipping sauce.

Fairtrade coffee will also be served with Belgian dark chocolate brownie, raspberry and almond bite and caramel shortbread.
