EDINBURGH-based tidal energy firm Nova Innovation is expanding its activities in Wales and opening a new office in Caernarvon, which will work alongside its Marine Energy Hub at Pembroke Dock.

The company has appointed Gwynnedd-based Dr Kate Smith as environment manager at the new office, marking its commitment to projects in the north of the country and the beginning of a period of growth.

Nova is working with community group YnNi Llyn to deliver a 1MW project at Bardsey Island off the Llyn Peninsula, with a berth in the Morlais tidal energy site off Anglesey.

Company CEO, Simon Forrest, said: “We are delighted to be growing the Welsh side of our business, and excited about the opportunities here for a thriving and sustainable marine energy industry that is good for business and for the people of Wales.”

Smith added: “Nova Innovation is a world leader in tidal energy, with a dynamic and talented team and is well-placed to succeed in this emerging new industry.”
