WHILE the Northern Lights were not as strong as predicted on Saturday night, some lucky photographers managed to snap the phenomenon above Scottish skies.

Many people across Scotland were disappointed to find that the aurora was not visible despite being seen widely the previous night.

The Northern Lights did occur, but the geomagnetic activity rating was reduced from Friday's extreme G5 to a severe G3. While the lights were there, the sky wasn't dark enough to allow most people to see them.

These stunning photographs show that some activity was picked up in Scotland, in the Highlands and outside of Glasgow.
