A woman is warning others to be vigilant after a man wearing a balaclava started “racing after her” on a bike in broad daylight.

Sam Aslam was left “screaming for help” during the terrifying incident which she says took place when she was walking along Thornliebank Road, East Renfrewshire, on her way to the gym last week.

“I was passing the primary school when a creepy guy on his bike started following me,” explained the 47-year-old.

“He had his face covered from nose to chin, mirror sunglasses on and a white hard hat, which caught my eye immediately.

“He started coming towards me, so I quickly crossed the road and noticed no one about as it’s been very quiet with the railway work.

“He then got quicker and started racing after me and I ran down the middle of the road hoping a car would pass and looking for workmen as he got closer to me.

“I screamed for help once I saw the workmen and thank goodness they came to my aid.

“We both saw the guy racing into the graveyard. Apparently, there is an exit on the other side.”

Unable to think straight due to her panic, the workmen urged her to call the police, which she then did.

Since her ordeal on Thursday, Sam says she has heard reports of others experiencing similar sounding incidents recently and wants others to be on their guard.

“I wasn’t sure what he was after as I didn’t have my phone out,” she added.

“My bag was small and a cross body and the same fabric as my jacket. It was on the opposite side of him.

“He stared right through me and I thought maybe I’ll throw my coffee at him but then I realised it wasn’t hot enough.

“I heard he did it the next day to another girl.

“You never know who’s watching you.

“Girls walk up and down there with headphones and their phone in hand not noticing anyone, so I just don’t want him to do it to anyone else.

“I just don’t want anyone coming to harm and to be vigilant."

A Police Scotland spokesperson confirmed that at “around 12.50pm on Thursday, April 25, 2024, police received a report of a man acting in a suspicious manner in the Thornliebank Road area of Glasgow."

“Extensive enquiries were carried out, but no criminality was established and suitable advice was provided,” they added.
