SCOTTISH Labour have won a seat from the Conservatives in a council by-election.
Labour’s Mary Hume was elected to represent the Kilwinning ward on North Ayrshire Council in a vote held on Thursday.
It came after John Glover, who had represented the ward for the Scottish Conservatives since 2017, passed away in February.

The Tory candidate in the by-election to replace Glover, Chris Lawler, was pushed into third place and the SNP candidate, Sheila Gibson, took second.
The Labour candidate won a landslide, with 2171 first preference votes compared to 916 for the SNP and 619 for the Tories.
The Scottish LibDems and the Scottish Family Party also ran and won 154 and 136 votes respectively.
North Ayrshire Council reported that voter turnout had been 30.2%.

The North Ayrshire Labour group celebrated the victory, writing: “LABOUR GAIN in Kilwinning!
“Congratulations to Kilwinning's new @scottishlabour Councillor Mary Hume! Let's get to work!”
North Ayrshire Council is led by an SNP minority administration.
